Personally, I am of the opinion that the value of a mentor cannot be overemphasized. I truly believe one of the many benefits of having mentors is to fast track your way to success and help you avoid huge mistakes.
After all, some of the most successful entrepreneurs attribute their success to the input of a mentor. Benjamin Graham mentored Warren Buffet, Warren Buffet mentored Bill Gates, Steve Jobs mentored Mark Zuckerberg, Sir Philip Green mentored Simon Cowell and Sir Freddie Laker mentored Sir Richard Branson. These captains of industries and pace setters have fast tracked their way to success through the help of mentors.
Seeking out mentors on my property journey provides me guidance, advice and fast track route to success by leveraging their knowledge, expe
rience and network. I have learnt how to be effective and better at doing things and also learnt from their mistake which helps me avoid such pitfall.
Here are 4 reasons why I value my mentors.
1. Expert Advice
Mentors have priceless experience, industry knowledge and insight gained over a number of years which you could leverage on to fast track your journey. Their advice is objective, well-seasoned and based on tried-and-tested business practices. As captains in their fields, they are poised to give you expert advice which usually helps you to avoid m
istakes and reduce unnecessary risk.
2. Multiple Perspectives
When I am faced with challenges and overwhelmed with a business problem, my mentors expand my view by helping me see multiple perspectives on the problem. They guide me toward a long standing solution that ultimately delivers growth and success. They broaden my outlook by presenting fresh ideas and innovative solutions, most of which I would not have thought off. I am always grateful to have them on my team.
3. Networking Potential
Some of the greatest benefits I have had from my mentorship relationships are networking opportunities and personal referrals. I found out that an introduction from my mentors has always helped strengthen new tie and fast track my business journey as opposed to meeting people randomly at an event. I have leveraged on my mentors network of contacts and met with joint venture partners, investors and decision makers in the property industry – some of whom I might never have met.
4. Skills Development
I extremely value my mentoring relationships because they are customized to meet my individual skill set and needs. With their expertise, my mentors guide and help me build on my strengths, compensating for my weaknesses and make suggestions about personal and professional growth. They help me grow fast and quickly by constantly m
aking me push my natural boundaries and inspire new learnings. They have helped me stay on track and focused with those non-urgent but important tasks by learning the importance of leveraging and systemizing my business.
I have come to the conclusion that in a mentorship relationship, you have nothing to lose but a whole world of business insight to gain. If you find something interesting, or want more information on any particular subject, I will be more than happy to share my experience or knowledge in order to help.
